Unlike New York and other actual cities, L.A. has never been known for its parades — or any other kind of civic-pride gathering. The organizers of the First Annual April Fool’s Sunset Strip Skip Down, intend to change that. The idea behind the event, a three-mile loop beginning and ending at Crescent Heights and Sunset, is to get people skipping as one big, happy group. Skipping has been shown to greatly reduce stress. “Skipping absolutely makes you feel like a kid again,” says Kim Corbin, avid skipper and founder of iskip.com. “Your adult voice says that you’ll look silly or stupid; that people will stare or poke fun at you,” she continues while probably skipping in place, “But that’s nonsense. Why do adults stop skipping in the first place? When I skip, I make people smile and feel good, including myself. Plus, it’s incredible exercise — physically and mentally.” Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow’s personal trainer Tracy Anderson was recently touting skipping on the treadmill. Sponsored, natch, by Skippy Peanut Butter, celebs include several Dodgers and grand marshal Marc Price, who played “Skippy” on Family Ties. Come in a krazee kostume and maybe win a prize.
