Dance Club Pick: After Dark
Freak City might be smack in the middle of Hollywood, but the cavernous building's hidden, after-dark dance-a-thons have had the most unbridled underground vibes of any we've been to lately. A retail space known for its Delicious Vinyl DJ classes, the Freak crew's own hip-hop/funk/electro events have been "da bomb," as the kids rockin' fade haircuts and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air garb (sold there) might say. A newish party from outside promoters conjures a similar retro decadence, though of a more euphoric sort. IHeartComix's REVENGE OF THE BOOGIE MONSTER, which debuted last month, brought out the ironic sequined set with some hot spinners, and this Saturday might just surpass the dance sass of the last.
