ACTUALLY, ART IS LIKE A BAD METHPHOR

Art is like children, or farts. There are two kinds: yours, and everybody else’s. Speaking of everybody else’s: The 2010 Los Angeles Art Show rolls into town. Through January 24 you’ll see all manner of artistic impression in a town that’s famously ridiculed for having no culture. L.A. street artists Mear One and El Mac bomb the canvases at the “Vox Humana” installation, and an exhibition of 25 GroupLA artists unveils the artists’ perceptions of Los Angeles in one of the most exciting triptychs since you stood in line for one at AAA. Also: Nick Cave and his installation “Meet Me at the Center of the Earth,” which features some of the freakiest mannequins this side of the slasher movie Tourist Trap. This is the Chicago Nick Cave, not the Bad Seeds Nick Cave, but come on — freaky mannequins! L.A. Convention Center, West Hall A, 1201 Figueroa St., dwntwn.; Wed.-Sun., Jan. 20-24, $20.
