2009 was the final year of a decade that for decades promised flying cars but instead delivered a level of boredom and self-involvement not seen since at least 2008. The You Can Heal Your Life group exhibition, which concerns itself with "issues of religion, spirituality and self-help through performance, sculpture, painting, video and printmaking" takes its thematic cues from not only the current malaise but also self-help guru Louise Hay's smash best-seller You Can Heal Your Life. Ironically, the New Age ideals that blossomed during the Reagan Era are here again, courtesy of 2012, "freak" folk and Snuggies -- thankfully, the pieces in this show exhibit forward-thinking, still contemplation rather than recidivist art-stroke. Featured: the serigraphs of Aquarian Age artist Sister Mary Corita; the heterochromial portraits of John Espinosa; the consumerist mandalas of Aleksandra Mir and the life-sized temple entrance of Gustavo Godoy.
