More About
You haven't really explored the Hollywood Forever Cemetery until you've been led around by a member of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles (ADSLA) on its annual Halloween Forever Hollywood Cemetery Tour. Guides who really know what it takes to be a well-dressed corpse take you to gravesites of such Tinseltown luminaries as eponymous park donor Colonel Griffith J. Griffith; Hollywood founder Harvey Wilcox; heartthrobs Rudolph Valentino and Tyrone Power; Hearst's paramour Marion Davies; Our Gang's Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer; King Kong's blonde, Fay Wray; megaproducer Cecil B. Demille and more. Says ADSLA spokesperson Margot Gerber, "The docents will be in vintage Halloween costumes; they focus on the grave markers that are in the Deco style and also point out luminaries of early L.A. and Deco-era Hollywood celebrities. Some of the scandal stories such as that of 'Fatty' Arbuckle and Virginia Rappe (who is buried here) are shared." Ignore the statue of Johnny Ramone he's not buried here. Tours leave every 20 minutes from 10 a.m.-noon; tours last 2 1/2 hours; $13. (310) 659-3326.
