AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY . . (UM, HOW DOES THAT GO?)

One of my British friends rolls her eyes in disgust when she hears me pronounce Monty Python Mahntee PYE-THON rather than Mahntee PYE-th'n, which is how everyone in the world except me says it (she says), even though my mispronunciation is listed as the preferred pronunciation in all but the Oxford English Dictionary, probably. (I can't afford an OED, so we'll just assume). And since I'm so very flat broke and will be, like most of you, dear readers, homeless by year's end, perhaps our still-employed friends will treat us to An Evening Without Monty Python, a sketch- and song-filled celebration of 40 years of the seminal do-gooding comedic groundbreakery of Monty Pyth'n's Flying Circus, to coincide with the publication of an unrelated 240-page paperback, Monty Python Live! (Hyperion) on Sept. 22. From the creators of the Broadway hit Monty Python's Spamalot, An Evening features musical direction by longtime Pyth'n collaborator John Du Prez and is co-directed by B.T. McNicholl and former Pyth'n Eric Idle, which gives it oodles of credibility, but it stars Jeff B. Davis, Jane Leeves, Alan Tudyk, Rick Holmes and Jim Piddock, which should keep costs down to a minimum.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 23. Continues through Oct. 4, 2009
