L.A. SWAN SONG

With its intimate format, the Khmer Arts Salon Series strives to cultivate audiences for the highly stylized, traditional arts of Asia, and this week provides the setting for bharata natyam, a classical dance from southern India. Percussive, emotive yet joyous, it often retells ancient tales of gods, warriors and their shenanigans. More important, tonight it sets the stage for dancer Ramaa Bharadvaj to say goodbye. A longtime figure on the local scene, Bharadvaj has received multiple Horton awards, prompted critical raves and graced the cover of Dance Magazine, but is leaving L.A. for India. This farewell solo performance includes three of her favorite original choreographies, an interactive movement segment with the audience and a Q&A.
