I can't tell if Buddyhead has a new partnership with TopSpin Media, a heavily buzzed about startup, or not. I wish the author would've devoted more of the word count toward clarifying that issue.

This is probably one of the worst pieces of writing I have ever read. And in defense of Manson: who would actually wear that much makeup and crazy outfits 24/7? Can anyone honestly say they ALWAYS have makeup on and awesome outfits? Or do you too take some time to take your makeup off and wear sweatpants around? Get a life. Ever been to a show? He can rock the crap out of a show. And his music is talented and actually has some meaning to it! Weird...a very rare thing in todays music. So, instead of busting in on people and mocking them for dressing down and not liking your type of music...find a real career.

I doubt even a scrawny **** like Keller is gonna care when you're probably fat, probably goth ass shows up, but anyway, I remember now that Manson mentioned something about this in an interview with his own fansite, that he has since knocked off the internet after a pretty nasty dispute with it's admins, who stooped as low as to share his new material and write that they hoped he got shot on stage, after insuitaing some other stuff about drugs that was probably true anyway. But Keller doesn't mention that Manson kicked him out the room afterwards for being a douche.

I never read the interview that pissed Manson off so much.I just did actually and I personally want to find the guy to make him regret the day he's born.If the guy is a journalist and all he can do is diss musicians,maybe he should be the one working in a fucking 7 eleven in fucking florida.I don't even have to see his ugly face to know what type of guy he is.Been there Done that in his fucking mind but back to reality this guy is a complete waste of sperm.Just drop your so called talent as a journalist.You're probably more talented at Jerking off!

Hmm... I don't know much about buddyhead... but I didn't really like Travis Keller from this interview. He seems kinda like a bit of a self righteous, testosterone filled douchebag. I guess its one style of self-promotion. His label definitely put out some good bands though; icarus line and murder city devils are awesome.

In an era when anyone can easily preview and obtain music on their own, how is this article relevant? This guy criticizes Axel Rose, when he's actually guilty of the same thing: staging a comeback after the game has changed, and nobody cares anymore.

Brian: No problem here. Your comments are all well taken. hey, I'm a rat, we have thick skins...and heads. Personally I have no idea what belongs on the cover of the LA Weekly but what brought me to read the story was Topspin. Topspin are the guys I would have put on the cover (actually I think Billboard already beat the Weekly to it). Have been following TopSpin and specifically the ideas of Ian Rogers, the CEO, regarding possible directions of the music industry. If you guys at KXLU have not yet checked out Topspin, you might take a minute and look them up online. In particular there is a fair amount of interview material on-line from Rogers. The guy is very articulate with what I think are some uniquely original views on how and why people look for certain music. Possibly he would make an interesting radio interview for your listeners. I wish TopSpin luck in their venture. Whether it is Buddyhead or Beck, I think the TopSpin platform could be the start of an interesting and hopefully profitable new business model for musicians and small labels.

My point was that I thought it absurd that the Weekly would call this site "L.A.'s most loved and feared music website" when 1. nobody I know in big corporate radio as well as undergroundy college radio has even heard of it, and 2. it seems the story itself isn't so much about how anything about that website is important to the music scene, but rather about a couple of juvenile pranksters who like Led Zeppelin and drinking Jameson and collecting cease and desist orders from Limp Bizkit et al.
I'm not saying that I've heard of everything, but it seems totally off target for the Weekly to make such a proclamation about the site.

PlayahRabbitt: Hey, I was sincere when I said that KXLU and KIIS, and KOST are great institutions in LA. I have listened to them all. And personally I think Swingin' Oldies is good marketing and broadcast material. Brings in ads. Pays a lot of paychecks and that is a good thing on payday. Now if you found Buddyhead to be as full of zzzzzzzz as I think a a story on Clear Channel would likely be....fair enough..... but I am always curious....who would you like to see on the cover of the LA Weekly? Who in LA do you think has a hold of the moment in music right now? And, if I haven't asked too many questions already.....what did you think of this band Ozomatli who was on the cover of the Weekly a few weeks ago? They were new to me.

Brian: You said Clear Channel, right? And KXLU. That would be Loyola Marymount College Radio and stations like KIIS, KOST, and programs like Jammin� Oldies, Disco Studio 104, and STAR 80�s. You do work with some of the great music institutions of Los Angeles, Brian. However I can see how Buddyhead got by your radar. Los Angeles has a diverse and vibrant music community. Much of it will never be on Clear Channel's radar. I believe it is fair to say that LA as well as NYC, Chicago, Detroit, and Nashville incubate new generations of music, groups, sounds...and mega conglomerate Clear Channel's business model is to commercialize the most successful. Sounds like a full time job to me. Why are you surprised to find that some element of LA's music scene has eluded you while your company was launching the marketing campaign for Jammin' Oldies? Can you imagine an LA Weekly cover story on Clear Channel? zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jack, its tough for me to list too many bands that I find really exciting that are newer and current. I don't think that it's an exciting time for rock/underground rock (if that even exists anymore with the internet and all). Dischord, T&G, K etc. of the early 90s was where that sorta ended for me. Bands like Health, No Age, Animal Collective, etc. they do nothing for me at all in the excitement dept. Plenty of really good bands out there now though: I think Grails is really cool. They're sorta like if Neurosis took over that lame GYBE band's practice space. They keep expanding their sound also. I like Dead Meadow but they've been around for a while. I dunno, Earth and OM, pretty rad. You should get the album that Ceramic Dog put out last year. I won't say anything about it. Just get it. i'm finally coming around to that weirdo Current 93 i think. I could make a longer list I guess. This is a weird time for rock music. Bands sound too rehashed, too overtly retro without transcending their influences (which is why I like Dead Meadow). Rock all around isn't a force anymore like it was. Now it's just one aisle over from the video games and DVDs. So, BH and PF don't have much to write about. /rant

Back in the day, I read whatever Buddyhead had to say about whatever he wanted to talk about...his opinion, like it or not, was a fun read and a good laugh. WTF, pick your poison, right? The way you fanned this flame makes it seem you've a LA Weekly bone in your throat? The feature was interesting and entertaining, period. I don't think you're a reader that supports the success of the Weekly, and I don't imagine they're aiming their marketing guns at a guy like you anyway. Your comments betray you as more of an angry guy who knows nothing about the "meat" of the feature. The infamous battle between Buddyhead & Durst was a full-blown rock classic! This is quite possibly the worst feature article ever written. It's amazing how far and how quickly the quality of the L.A. Weekly has fallen.
Beginning with the ridiculous and obnoxious notion that L.A. was somehow apocalypticly vacant the weekend of Coachella, to the pointless aren't-we-cool-we're-at-medieval-times scene, to the suggestion that calling someone a "fucking retard" is an example of "rapier wit" (watch out Oscar Wilde,) to the notion that a failed website whose biggest claim to fame is a feud with Fred Durst of all people is somehow relevant to indie music, and on to the entirely false supposition that people actually give a shit that this website exists, this article is completely worthless throughout.
And the best example you can give of this website's writing is a full-column rant about Perez Hilton? W, T, motherfucking F?
This kid's website is idiotic. It is not influential. It is not important. And neither is his buddy's feature article. Awful and embarrassing.

i have been a fan since the beginning. My old band was mentioned a few times in the gossip column.. We dropped off a tour with this band called Face to Face and TK was like "someone finally gets it, that band is shit, Rich must be popping pills again" or something to that extent.. this was years ago.
Also. I want to thank buddyhead for introducing me to AUTOLUX in 2002. still the best band here in LA.... and my favorite band to this day. /rant.

aprioridouche, no one cared about the Oblivians or Animals and Men when they were current. It's so easy to throw bands like that on your blog in an effort to show how cool you are. This may come as a shock to you but anyone with a computer and a finger can have a music blog these days. BH is just trying to cash in with a bunch of half-assed reviews of mostly boring bands. Plus, they prefer Mudhoney to the Melvins which makes them complete retards in my book. They don't know shit. They don't even know when to cash in.

buddyhead is rad. they dont pretend to take themselves as serious as pitchfork and other tastemaker blogs, they just tell it how it is. its funny as shit and honest as fuck. ive met Travis a few times and contrary to what i thought he was gonna be like he was really nice and just as sardonically sarcastic but not malicious or anything, helped me and my friend get into a show and was just an all around nice dude. he seems just to be an asshole to people who deserve it, its something that he doesnt deny. ready buddyhead for some laughs, and feel you're not alone in this world after all

I've read loads of Buddyhead, hilarious and trite. I'm trying to think of one band or one album that they clued me into since I first read in 2001. Nothing comes to mind. Almost everything they review could probably be found in the equivalent of Walmart.

What a ridiculous spotlight. Keller had a moment as a dumbass kid a decade ago and it was funny. I read it just like everyone else did. However, it seems he is easily confused with the people he hangs out with. As an individual, there is nothing dynamic or forward thinking about Keller. Comparing him to Aquarium Drunkard is ridiculous as AD actually strives for a level of journalistic legitimacy. Keller is still using the same tired tone he used when he was 22 which at this point is just embarrassing as most people have matured in their tone. Keller is nothing but a music fan like my kid brother only he has "cooler" friends. Good luck with that.
