Abbey Sibucao is an identical triplet who identified as "the fat, funny girl" in high school and graduated at the top of her class. She's since traveled the world as a singer, even appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Showand backing up the likes of Hilary Duff. But while all of these personal tidbits are certainly interesting enough, they're nothing compared to her current gig. The facts that count: Sibucao grew up in a household that didn't believe in censorship. She was watching Pryor, Kinison and Flip Wilson at age 4. Three years ago her mother passed away, and Jim Norton's Monster Rain HBO special helped her laugh through the pain. Same thing with a heart scare and Louis C.K. two years back. Though she's always been told she should try comedy herself, she's never had the interest. Instead, Sibucao co-created and produces the white-hot "Candor Comedy" monthly showcase. Enthusiastic throngs swarm the open bar at this event, and both the number of attendees and the strength of the talent have grown exponentially. July sees Stephen Glickman, John Roy, Dylan Mandlsohn and Moshe Kasher taking the intimate, high-tech theater's stage for one night only, though their funny-making will live on infinitely through Hulu.com. Since Sibucao is also host of her labor of love 'n' laughter, be sure to arrive early for the best of the highly limited seats. You'll want to say you were there, front and center, when the future of comedy was unfolding, guaranteed.
