Black Disco and Shits & Giggles Beget Bears in Space

By Lina Lecaro

It might not seem like gays have too much to celebrate this Pride Weekend, but not even the h8ters can stop the community from coming together (both in the streets of WeHo and in the clubs). Here, the best dance haps for the GLBT set and hag-ers on who love ’em. Erotic City will be an event within the big street event, billed as an alternative to the “disco/house/line dancing” of most area circuit parties. Expect porn stars, body painting and fetishy play areas, plus live performances and DJs. Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose Ave. at San Vicente; Sat.-Sun., June 13-14. www.lapride.org. Club Hot Dog and Randyblue.org join forces for a Gay Pride Weenie Roast, and you can bet this one will be hot and juicy, both on the grill and on the dance floor. Palms, 8572 Santa Monica Blvd.; Sat., June 13. www.myspace.com/swallowfridays. Benefiting L.A.’s Gay & Lesbian Center, Sinful will close out Pride’s party plethora with go-go guys, lasers and giveaways, in Hollywood proper. Halo, 1743 N. Cahuenga Blvd.; Sun., June 14; free (donations taken at the door). www.kinnetixx.com. And hairy huggers and big bumpers alike should orbit into Bears in Space, the new mixed mash from Chris Bowen (Shits & Giggles) and Nitedog (Black Disco). Free first beer with beard (facial hair, not fake girlfriend). Akbar, 4356 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake; Sun., June 14 (and every second Sun. of the month after that). www.blackdisco.net.
