Dublab: Time to Cry

Droog celebrates debut of Culprit Records

The bare legs and blooming bashes of spring have arrived, and the decksters from the Droog collective are getting their splash on right at its dawn, starting this Sunday, kicking off a six-month residency atop the downtown Standard’s rooftop — haze be damned. Launching their new label, Culprit, the local lads (Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe) join forces with beat-makers from the Crosstown Rebels label (Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus and Clive Henry) for a techno-rific daytime tear-down. 550 Flower St., dwntwn., Sun., March 22, 1-9 p.m. www.myspace.com/droog_la. While Droog looks to the sunny side and upbeat mixes for its soiree, another collective, Dublab, grooves in an entirely different direction later that night. Their long-running Give Up gathering saturates guests in sad and gloomy goodness, and though their motto is “stop dancing and cry,” we say why not do both? If any DJs can create such a cathartic soundtrack, it’s these: Dntel, Frosty, Hungry Beat, Wendy Yao. Hyperion Tavern, 1941 Hyperion Ave., Silver Lake, Sun., March 22. www.dublab.com.
