Marcus Schulz, Dragstrip 66, Devlin & Darko of Spank Rock

By Lina Lecaro

Published on January 07, 2009 at 4:29pm

Two anniversary bashes should be pumping — if in very different ways — this week. Behemoth beat-fest Club Giant marks its ninth year of massive electronic-music gatherings, with trance powerhouse Markus Schulz on the decks; his moody mixing journeys are definitely epic enough for the occasion. Also spinning is Gareth Emery, a DJ-producer known for beguiling dance floors from the U.K. to Ibiza. Vanguard, 6021 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Sat., Jan. 10. www.giantclub.com. The same night in Echo Park, Dragstrip 66 marks its 16-year b-day by taking its usual cross-dressing excess to new heights with a “My Super Sweet 16”–themed princess party. Like we said, pump-ing of a different sort. DJ Paul V. (indie 103.1, Bootie L.A., Neon) spins electropop, indie mixes, rock and mash-ups, and the queen scene’s brightest — Kay Sedia, Momma and the Booffant Sisters — offer a tiara-packed midnight show. Echoplex, 1152 Glendale Blvd., L.A.; Sat., Jan. 10. www.dragstrip66.com. It’s not an anniversary, but Control on Friday also deserves mention this week for spanking-good spinners Devlin & Darko (of Spank Rock), who’ll bring their bootie-banger jams to the big room, along with Drop the Lime (Brooklyn), Destructo (Hard Fest), and Mr. White. Honey Lounge downstairs will have sweet beats, too. Avalon, 1735 Vine St., Hlywd.; Fri., Jan. 9. www.avalonhollywood.com.
