The week after New Year’s Eve is historically dead dance club–wise, but ’09 is already kicking off in feisty/festive form. Club Giant proves it didn’t max out with its Maximus street event and comes back stronger than ever at its usual Vanguard locale this Saturday, with arguably one of the DJ world’s biggest crowd-pleasers, DJ Z-Trip. Trust us, Z’s rockin’ mixes are worth the extra hangover this week. At Vanguard, 6021 Hollywood Blvd.; Sat., Jan. 3., www.giantclub.com. A set by another banger buster, “funk rock” turntablist Chad Rock (L.A. Breakbeat Association), offers a chance to check out the King King’s monthly thing called Get Down (their residents are no slouches either: DJ Sol, Deeper Moods’ Suli Belarto, Nic Fiorina). At King King, 6555 Hollywood Blvd.; Fri., Jan. 2, www.myspace.com/getdown_la. And, finally, if you’re more of a glamster than a groovester (and you didn’t get enough wear out of that sparkly NYE getup), head over to Wig Out!’s “Get Your Glam On” gathering with its usual array of performers and DJs shining like never before — and a set by glitter-rock blockers Sounds of Asteroth. Discount at the door with a wig, to boot! At Bordello, 901 E. First St., dwntwn; Thurs., Jan. 8, www.myspace.com/wigoutgetyourwigon.
