Have Yourself a Medieval Little Christmas

Spend "Belles Heures" with Ciaramella at the Getty

In the mood for a medieval Christmas? Then this is your ticket. The award-winning ensemble Ciaramella, featuring pristine vocals and a fascinating array of early instruments, explores the songs and poetry of 14th-century composer-poet extraordinaire Guillaume de Machaut, who reached the height of literary and musical accomplishment thanks to the patronage of the art- and music-loving Duke of Berry. Ciaramella — which takes its name from the Italian folk shawm — performs love songs by Machaut and songs inspired by his poetry; allegorical motets; sacred music; music of the Hundred Years War; and rustic dances that would have been heard in those glittering fields illuminated in the famed medieval book of hours, the Belles Heures. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “The Belles Heures of the Duke of Berry.” Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Dr., Brentwood; Sat., Dec. 13, 8 p.m.; $20, $15 students & seniors. (310) 440-7300 or www.getty.edu.
