Collecting and Conserving

Three in one. The museum's new trio of exhibits digs into the conservation efforts of a few chosen ancient objects: Reconstructing Identity: A Statue of a God from Dresden looks at the restoration history of a Roman sculpture originally found in Italy in the 17th century, and currently on loan from the Dresden State Art Collections; The Getty Commodus: Roman Portraits and Modern Copies explores the origin of a marble bust of the Roman emperor Commodus displayed alongside other Roman portrait busts; and Fragment to Vase: Approaches to Ceramic Restoration offers a behind-the-scenes look at the reconstruction of ceramic vases in museums.
Mondays, Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 18. Continues through June 1, 2008
