Saturday Night Flavors: The Chase, Bootie LA, Nikita

By Lina Lecaro

Neo-disco’s sexy escapism is all the rage right now, and DFA Records is arguably its most popular purveyor. This week, a disco dolly from one of that label’s most praised acts — New York’s Hercules and Love Affair — pops into town for a DJ set on Saturday, and she’s sure to make everyone (boys and girls) feel love, and a li’l lust too. HALA’s Kim Ann Foxman spins at The Chase, and we’re guessing the dykelicious vocalist/DJ’s beats are as provocative and lush as her band’s. Mountain Bar, 473 Gin Ling Way, Chinatown. www.themountainbar.com. If disco has its campy moments, another club music fave, mashups, make for an even wackier frolic — at least at Bootie LA, one of the wildest dance parties in town. Also this Saturday, Bootie “goes Boom,” with a live mashup set featuring former L’Trimm chickee The Lady Tigra, who’ll be performing “Phantom on the Bottom” (DJ Paul V.’s mash combining the vox from her “Bass on the Bottom” track with Justice’s “Phantom”). Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd., Echo Park. myspace.com/bootiela. Disco and mashups might be a tad wimpy for hardcore trance heads, but these speaker-humping progressive freaks also have a new Saturday night (even if it is at an old spot, known for past parties like Spundae and, more recently, Red). Club Nikita launched last week with Gil LA, Fei Fei (both formerly of Spundae) and seasoned spinner the Swedish Egil, and it’s sure to be in the groove this week, with the Egil himself on the decks, along with longtime rave fave Taylor, plus D Morse, Joey Medina and more. Circus, 6655 Santa Monica Blvd., Hlywd. myspace.com/clubnikita.
