Midnight Juggernauts, Holy Ghost and Disco Legend Nicky Siano

By Lina Lecaro

Published on September 03, 2008 at 3:35pm

The slinky seduction of vintage disco beats or the raucous abandon of nu-rave rhythms? This Hump Night, dance denizens have two diversely dynamic parties to choose from. At the Vanguard, the Scion House Party (a monthly event thrown with IHeartComix and Vice mag) offers Australia’s Midnight Juggernauts, a dance-rock outfit in the vein of the Klaxons (they just toured with Justice, so ya know they get their techno on). Also on the bill, sonic treats from ice-cream-truck groovers HeartsRevolution, spirited DFA dude Holy Ghost and DJ Pharrell (not the NERD guy, but a fella from the bodacious MP3 blog Fluokids). RSVP at www.scion.com/houseparty. Over at La Cita, the hot new bimonthly discoteque called Full Frontal (think the decadence of Club Rhonda, only with more divas in the mix) has an NYC legend on the decks, Studio 54/The Gallery spin man Nicky Siano. Siano’s euphoric sets were the soundtrack to ’70s-era hedonism in NYC. He also came back to the club scene in the late ’90s, spinning modern house music at the hot spot Twelve Street, but we’re hoping he’ll go more retro for this rare L.A. appearance. If we don’t hear some Moroder or Grace Jones at this one, we’ll eat our spandex bodysuit. www.sleazetone.com/fullfrontal. Both events Wed., Sept. 10, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; over 21
