Dance Club Pick: DJ Babu at Boombox

Soul Scienz’s Boombox bash continues to pump up the volume for old school and underground hip-hop heads with its casual, cool vibe and mega-potent grooves, and this Saturday will surely be no exception. DJ Babu commands the decks, and as anyone familiar with this cat’s crews (Dilated Peoples, Beat Junkies, Likwit Junkies) and pedigree (he’s got a slew of turntable competition titles, including a DMC championship, under his DJ belt) is surely aware, he busts the moves in more ways than one. Sure to spin a dizzying, scratch-heavy mash of new, old and original sound concoctions off of his ’07 release, The Beat Tape, Vol. 1, Babu will make this Boombox blast bigger and badder than it has in some time.
