Ravish

Rosanna Gamson and World Wide’s Gothic Novelty

As 19th-century writers, the three youngest Brontë sisters created romantic, passionate stories such as Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights that continue to haunt readers today. But the sisters’ own lives were relatively cloistered, isolated from the larger world and filled with hardship and tragedy; all six Brontë siblings died before they were 40. The biographical facts are just the touchstone for Ravish, Gamson’s consideration of what she describes as the “creative hothouse” that produced these writers, which will be performed at the new Los Angeles Theater Center. Dancers include Michael Gomez, Sarah Goodrich, Marissa Labog, Lilia Lopez and Carin Noland. Flavia Sparacino provided the interactive visual effects, and Rob Bailis conceived the score. From the award-winning Grand, Hope, Flower to the Terra Nova series showcasing company members’ choreography, Gamson and her World Wide company make infrequent but invigorating contributions to the local dance scene that are well worth seeking out. Theater 3, 514 S. Spring St., dwntwn.; Thurs.-Sat., Nov. 15-17, 8 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 18, 3 p.m.; $28, $15 students & seniors. (323) 461-3673 or www.thenewlatc.com.
