FRIDAY, August 24

“The time to hesitate is through.” It’s finally become clear to me what that means: Wild Child may not be around forever (they’ve already been doing the Doors a hell of a lot longer than the Doors ever did the Doors). What are you going to do on a Friday night, anyway? Stay home and wallow in the mire? Whisky a GoGo, 8901 Sunset Blvd., W. Hlywd.; Fri., Aug. 24, 8 p.m.; $20. (213) 480-3232.

SATURDAY, August 25

With only a slight stretch of the imagination, the grand Victorian houses of Heritage Square Museum become Haight-Ashbury today for 1967 Summer of Love 2007, the most awkwardly titled event of the week, but we get the idea they are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the summer none of us ever had or will have. Come dressed in your Grateful Deadiest duds for a costume contest, a dance contest (a.k.a. drippiest spinning), face painting, and music by ’60s rockers the Ravelers. What’s that smell coming from the attic? Heritage Square Museum, 3800 Homer St., L.A.; Sat., Aug. 25, 4-7 p.m.; $25. (323) 225-2700. Ext. 224.

SUNDAY, August 26

Best. E-mail. Ever. “12,000-Year-Old Walrus Penis Heads Long List of Hard to Find Items at Chait’s Natural History Auction.” There’s more. Oh yes, there’s more. “Highlights include a 4½-foot-long walrus penis fossil discovered in the frozen tundra of Siberia and dating back 12,000 years to the Pleistocene Period. The mammal’s manhood is mummified, with a layer of perfectly preserved skin intact. Believed to be the largest known mammal penis fossil, it is estimated to sell for between $12,000 and $16,000.” Say you really don’t have the décor to match a 4½-foot-long whale penis? You can also bid on a pair of mating 40-million-year-old insects (makes a great Valentine’s Day gift!), a mounted 20-foot-long fossil skeleton of an aquatic dinosaur and a piece of the moon. Yes, that moon! I.M. Chait, 9330 Civic Center Dr., Beverly Hills; Sun., Aug. 26, 1 p.m. (310) 285-0182.

MONDAY, August 27

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer dig out their Spinal Tap and Folksmen outfits for Concert for a Cause, a benefit for the International Myeloma Foundation, so no snotty jokes about checking your cucumber at the door. Avalon, 1735 N. Vine St., Hlywd.; Mon., Aug. 27, 8 p.m.; $50 in advance or $250 VIP. (323) 462-8900.

TUESDAY, August 28

If you’re of a certain age — old, but not that old — you might recall a cutie pie named Robby Benson from the tee-vee. If you remember him in those cutoff jeans — pant, pant — in Harry and Son, raise your hand. Benson, who’s written well-received screenplays, now has a novel out titled Who Stole the Funny?, described as a “scathingly brilliant and caustically comedic bird’s eye view of behind the scenes comedy television.” He’s still hunky too. Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd., W. Hlywd.; Tues., Aug. 28, 7 p.m.; free, book is $13.95. (310) 659-3110.

WEDNESDAY, August 29

“Sweet Nancy, The Baby” and the “Fancy Miss Nancy” are two of her nicknames, but I just call her Nancy — Wilson, that is. Miss Nancy Wilson, not the skinny sister in Heart. A slew of big names honor her in Nancy Wilson 70th Birthday Celebration, with Natalie Cole, James Ingram, Terence Blanchard, Regina Carter and Kurt Elling. Arsenio Hall hosts. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hlywd.; Wed., Aug. 29, 8 p.m.; $12-$30, tickets still available. (213) 480-3232.

THURSDAY, August 30

Charles Phoenix Presents Bob Baker: This Is Your Life! Mr. Phoenix, a Los Angelexpert, pays tribute to L.A.’s beloved puppeteer and owner of the Bob Baker Marionette Theater with four performances featuring dozens of his wooden beauties. Chucky the Phoenician will recount the fascinating life of Mr. Baker with slides and film clips. Then everybody gets cake and ice cream, complete with a special performance by the guest of honor! Bob Baker Marionette Theater, 1345 W. First St., dwntwn. (sorta, check a map first); Thurs.-Sat., Aug. 30-Sept. 1, 8 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 2, 2 p.m.; $40. (213) 250-9995.
