Sonidos En Espaņol

Nativo at Zanzibar

Think Latin music is all ranchera, salsa or rock en español? Then you don’t know nada. There’s a whole world of Spanish-language and Latin-influenced sounds out there, and one new dance night — Nativo Wednesdays at Zanzibar — aims to expose its most soulful side. DJs include Mexican Dubwiser (spinning cumbia, hip-hop and rock mashups), Sloe Poke (known for his body-rockin’ sets melding everything from reggae to merengue), Mando Fever (pumping out house beats from Brazil, the U.S. and beyond) and musician-turned-turntablist GomezComesAlive! (spinning Chicano grooves). This Wednesday, the crew welcomes hip-hop hybrid Kemo the Blaxican, formerly of bilingual rappers Delinquent Habits, to celebrate the release of his latest, Not So Rich and Famous, with a live performance that’s sure to funk up the fiesta. Zanzibar, 1301 Fifth St., Santa Monica; Wed., June 27, 10 p.m.-2 a.m. (323) 451-2221 or www.myspace.com/nativowednesdays.
