Fashion Fridays

{mosimage} Fridays are getting fashionable at Avalon — for free. The club is gathering designers and DJs for evenings filled with dancing and goodies. (Last week, Betsey Johnson’s Betseyville purse line gave out a heep o’ handbags, with sounds provided by Samantha Ronson.) This week, Paper Denim hosts a night of crowd-pleasin’ rock and hip-hop selections from DJ Crash (Mood Wednesdays, Playboy Mansion parties) and a live performance from dance rock rousers Ultraviolet. If you like Peaches, Le Tigre, Shiny Toy Guns and other spunky, female-led electro acts, you’ll want to soak up the rhythmic rays of this local outfit led by fiery singer Sarah Hudson. Cuts like “Gimme My Electro” and “Dead on the Dancefloor” off the EP Fast, Cheap and Out of Control blend Joan Jett ballsiness with late-’80s/early-’90s disco and new wave booty beats. While most groups of this ilk overdo it on the irony, Hudson and Co.’s live show is full-on feel-it fun. As the band says on their MySpace page, they “march to the beat of their own drum machine.” And since there’s no cover to enjoy the party (plus a chance to score some swag), why wouldn’t you want to join them? Avalon, 1735 Vine St., Hlywd.; Fri., April 6, 10 p.m. Guest list only. RSVP at paper.denim.event@gmail.com (RSVPs are not guaranteed without a confirmation).
