Pennington Dance Group: Disrobing Sites

Even without the provocative title, this show by choreographer John Pennington and his relatively new troupe deserves attention from serious dance aficionados. Pennington Dance Group’s work in 2005 absolutely dominated this year’s Lester Horton Awards for excellence in local dance, winning not only for choreography and performance, but also in the technical categories as well. Those who missed PDG last year have another chance. Reflections on Kreutzberg, arguably the company highlight of 2005, will be reprised along with three new works, two from Pennington. The Goodman Dances, set to Alexander Zemlinsky’s Posthumous Songs, features singing from the Concord Ensemble. Skins Screens and Trees employs scenic design from Joseph Shuldiner and a new score by Edgar Rothermich. The extraordinary dancer Nancy Colahan is showcased in guest choreographer Tonia Shimin’s Of Time and Spirit. Other dancers include Denesa Chan, Li-Chun Chang, Brian Frette, Susan Gladstone, Shannon Harris, Diedre Smith, Michael Szanyi and Yvette Wuff. Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4718 W. Washington Blvd., L.A.; Fri.-Sat., Nov. 3-4, 8 p.m.; $23, $17 students. (323) 993-8503 or www.penningtondancegroup.org.
