Diva On the Verge

Are you afraid of opera? Don’t waste your money on a therapist — just go to Julia MigenesDiva on the Verge. Migenes designed her one-woman show, which has been delighting audiences since 1998, as a way to “make life easier for ‘operanoiacs,’?” but of course it’s made for everyone, opera lovers included. A certified diva herself — she’s been called the most prominent actress/opera singer after Maria Callas — Migenes provides an irreverent behind-the-scenes look at the crazy life of an opera singer, mixing comic monologues and sketches with famous soprano arias. The result is what she describes as “a very unstuffy way of introducing the world of opera to an audience . . . Usually by the end of the evening there have been enough laughs that the audience feels ready to go to the opera.” Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Theatre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Pico Blvd., W.L.A.; Sat., Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. (includes preshow champagne reception), & Sat., Sept. 23, 7 p.m. (310) 286-0553 or www.theatreraymondkabbaz.com.
