Sergio and Odair Assad

If you’ve never seen Sergio and Odair Assad, you’ve been missing some of the most exciting finger picking ever to come from two sibs. These bros are so vastly talented and dynamic that major contemporary composers like Astor Piazzolla, Terry Riley, Dusan Bogdanovic and Radames Gnatalli have been inspired to write works for them, and musical superstars like Yo-Yo Ma, Gidon Kremer, Dawn Upshaw and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg have lined up to collaborate with them. Known for their superlative technical wizardry, their wide-ranging repertoire and their “uncanny” musical communication, the Assad brothers were, by ages 13 and 9, TV stars in their native Brazil; today, at 54 and 50, they are considered the world’s pre-eminent guitar duo. At the Bowl, they’ll perform Rodrigo’s Concierto Madrigal with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya; program also includes works by Giménez, Revueltas, Galindo and Piazzolla. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hlywd.; Tues., Sept. 5, 8 p.m.; $6-$43. (323) 850-2000 or www.hollywoodbowl.com.
