“Animations: Nathalie Djurberg, Brent Green, and David Shrigley & Chris ShepherdUCLA Hammer Museum Projects

There is no doubt that Who I Am and What I Want by David Shrigley and Chris Shepherd is the star of this show. Shrigley’s signature line drawings have been animated by Shepherd to tell the story of Pete, a man who has left “polite society” to live naked in the woods. In Who I Am, narrated by Kevin Eldon, we get to hear and see a little about Pete’s past such as bathing in the waterfall of his father’s piss, working for the “feeble minded,” and suffering from mental illness and forgetting to take his meds. Now, in the woods, Pete no longer takes pills and fantasizes about the things he desires as a frenetic litany begins: “I want to be looked up to!” “I want to be flat!” And, “I want to come back as a ghost and dig up my own corpse!” Brent Green’s Hadacol Christmas, about an addicted and intoxicated low-rent Santa Claus and scored by the band Califone, is worth seeing as well, but Nathalie Djurberg’s psychosexual and animalistic claymation is a bit tedious.10889 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. | www.hammer.ucla.edu | (310) 443-7000 | Through Sept. 10
