Bassiona Amorosa

One string bass is enough of an experience, but six all at once? Welcome to Bassiona Amorosa, a sextet of brilliant young virtuosi from Munich who, under the auspices of Young Artists International and the International Laureates Festival 2006, make their West Coast debut in a program of classical and popular works guaranteed to wow ya. Named after Giovanni Bottesini’s little gem “Passione Amorosa” (“The Passion of Love”), the ensemble has become known for its charm, wit and amazing technical prowess. In the wrong hands, six-string basses could sound like a gaggle of drowning cellos, but these musicians create a sound and experience unlike anything you’ve probably ever experienced, which has been modestly described as “grandiose virtuosity.” Treat yourself. JOHN ANSON FORD AMPHITHEATER, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East, Hlywd.; Tues., July 25, 8 p.m.; $12-$27. (323) 461-3673.
