Dance Camera West

This monthlong orgy of dance-film screenings opened downtown last weekend; now the action moves west with two free events at UCLA’s Hammer Museum and extends through June with screenings in Santa Monica and Westwood. On Saturday in the Hammer Museum courtyard, two hour-long collections of short films will bookend a 30-minute interactive dance performance and a 60-minute film. Drawn from a spectrum of established and emerging artists, the segments should provide grist for Thursday’s event: a discussion on “The Future of Dance on Screen” with Scandinavian filmmakers Magne Antonsen and Gaelen Hanson. A sampling of Scandinavian dance films precedes the discussion, and DCW director Lynette Kessler will moderate. Hammer Museum Courtyard, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Wstwd.; Sat., June 10, 8-11 p.m.; Thurs., June 15, 7 p.m.; free. (310) 443-7000 or www.dancecamerawest.com.
