Jamie Land

Angelenos planning a junket ?to New York to see the Whitney Biennial would be wise to hold off until May 17 for the opportunity to see ex–Valley boy (now resident of France) Cameron Jamie’s trilogy of ragged anthropological films, Kranky Klaus/BB/Spook House, in the manner intended: projected in a real theater — Broadway’s Symphony Space — with the Melvins thrashing out the live score fuckin’ loud. UCLALive’s 2004 Royce Hall presentation of the same program not only convinced me of Jamie’s vision but was easily among the most exciting new-genre art events of the last decade. The Whitney-bound get the bonus North American premiere of Jamie’s most recent film, JO, in which fast food collides with Catholicism to the live guitar stylings of Japanese visionary experimentalist Keiji Haino. Like, Omigod!
