Goth Karaoke

Where to go when one gets the urge to croak out “Marian” by the Sisters of Mercy or “The Anal Staircase” by Coil? Operated by Howard Hallis and Andrew Holquin, Ground Control Karaokefeatures songs no other karaoke company would even consider — face it, the nuttiest selection one might find elsewhere would be “I Put a Spell on You” or perhaps an inadvertently slowed version of “Sugar Sugar.” But Ground Control fosters vocal burrs and Wilhelmian screams in the night, all the more shocking when emitted by those petite bombshells you see dancing the Penny Drop or the Taffy Pull — angry lungs have they, and, ye gods, what a collection of dead animals! Mondays, Jewel’s Catch One, 4067 W. Pico Blvd., (323) 734-8849.
