This review is full of pitiful attempts to draw parallels and conclusions based on shallow knowledge about the subject matter; the similarities with Kill Bill 1 and usage of Vivaldi, to name a few. It's so sad how this 'critic' spots specific scenes such as the animated trajectory from Dae-su to the killer and "bodily dismemberment" as "impish" or "all-to-familiar." The ability to target a few scenes and express extreme detest for them does NOT a professional critique make.
What an utter idiocy of a review! Of course you should be better off with Terminator 99, Twilight whatever and of course all other sorts of Hollywood crap. If Oedipus, as a name, rings any bell which I highly doubt, it might help stir a bit the shallow waters of what you may as well call "your mind".
Worst. Review. Ever.
Who allows this kind of ignorants to post such base and senseless opinions,
i wonder what are your favorites movies u bleeding asshole
In my humble opinion, your capacity to rate movies suck. I honestly find your reviews very shallow and I seriously doubt you actually watched the movie in a unbiased way or even watch it at all. For example, Oh Dae-su DID NOT go searching for his missing daughter and his wife's revenge. His motive was to find the reason for his incarceration. There are no cheap theatrics in this movie either. Every single action he took, every response, every emotion he felt, was brilliant played out. You can almost feel the insanity the main character was feeling, especially during the ending. Did you really analyze the fighting/violent scenes? Unlike most films these days, it was too real. It wasn't some hollywood movie where the character was magically proficient in fighting, had unlimited stamina, and the opponents come one at a time. You see the character (also the opponents) getting tired as hell. Oldboy also combines many comedic and ironical elements. You mentioned the trajectory path. I thought that was a humorous element. It brightened up the movie a bit and yet it did not take away the subtle darkness of the film. You also mentioned the ill usage of Vivaldi. If you actually listened to the music (Vivaldi "Four Seasons" "Winter") it matched the scenes well as the music itself was turbulent. All in all oldboy shows emotions very few movies would tread these days. In the end i hope you do a better job of rating movies.
Oh wow, this is actually the dumbest review I've read on this movie. You either actively tried to not like this movie while watching it, or just read about it online while actively trying not to like what you read. Biased and uneducated opinions suck. Especially for critics. It was the story of Lee Woo Jin's revenge(the real twist). About his tragic love, needing someone to blame. About that blame turning into obsession. About that obsession becoming his reason to live. He was the writer, director, and at times actor in his revenge plot involving Oh Dae Su. Both were victims, one an accidental one and the other born out of necessity. It's hard to condone their actions, but it's also hard to outwardly condemn them.
You're absolutely right, this movie sucked balls. Just saw it for the first time last night and the only thing shocking about it is how immature and shallow the whole plot and the reasoning behind it was and also how highly this turd is praised. I was already wanting to shut it off an hour in but I stuck it out to the end just to see if the scores would somehow be justified by watching the whole thing, WRONG. What a pile of crap. Thanks for actually giving an honest review. To anyone who thinks OldBoy is so great or such a masterpiece etc: You clearly know nothing about movies and have probably only seen about 80 of them, with around 50 of them being Korean. Good day.
Both Oldboy and Kill Bill were released in 2003 Mr. Froundas. There is a possibility they were both in development around the same time. And, to call Oldboy a knockoff of Kill Bill is silly and absurd. The similarities end at the revenge theme of both movies. They are two different movies.
Did you really watch Oldboy? Do you know anything about movies?
Fuck you. Nobody gives a fuck about your opinion. LA weekly? What kind of joke is that. Fuck you.
