Remembering Ron Curran

image

A week before the L.A. Weekly throws a 25th-anniversary bash for itself, there’ll be a fond, though more subdued, commemoration for a writer who helped establish the paper’s journalistic reputation. Former City Hall reporter Ron Curran died last month at age 43, unexpectedly, and well before he’d finished his mission of exposing bad guys and nurturing reportorial talent. Curran joined the Weekly right out of college, and later the award-winning investigative reporter patrolled the streets of San Francisco for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, before starting his own wire service for alternative writings. Curran was known to live hard, and often well, as though each party could be his last, so it’s fitting that friends and fans will gather at a local watering hole. They urge all to bring old photos and anecdotes. Stop by on Sunday, December 7, between 3 and 7 p.m., at the Cat & Fiddle, 6530 Sunset Blvd., in Hollywood.
