Expert Advice: Pre-Nup

Mindy Weiss of Mindy Weiss Party Consultants explains the I dos and don’ts

There are a lot of emotions surrounding a wedding. The key is to remain calm and flexible. Our staff tries its best to make our clients laugh. It helps alleviate the anxiety. Don’t expect perfection. There is no such thing as perfection.

Martha Stewart has indirectly put a lot of pressure on people to plan fabulous weddings, taking into account all the details. In some cases, the bride or groom will quit their job to plan. By the time the wedding is over, they’re spent.

The main expenses in planning a wedding are 1) food; 2) alcohol/beverages; 3) flowers; 4) band; and 5) wedding gown.

On average, I am hired a year out — a year from the wedding date. For Shaq’s wedding, though, I was given two months’ notice. Lead times vary. I do my best to get the job done according to the client’s timetable. I personally like less time because it forces you to make decisions and you don’t get wrapped up in the minutiae.

Remember, it’s okay to change ideas from your original wedding concept. Be flexible.
