Burning Gram

image

Before he overdosed 29 years ago in a Joshua Tree motel room, Gram Parsons told his friends that he wanted his body burned in the desert when his time came. An earnest attempt to fulfill his wish failed right after his death. Finally, fan Lee Celano took matters into his own hands and created a Gram Parsons effigy that lit up the desert sky during last week’s Gramfest, the annual fall festival devoted to Parsons’ music. No word on whether they sang Parsons’ “We’ll Sweep Out the Ashes in the Morning.”
